Obituary of Shirley Mae Knudsen

Shirley Mae Knudsen of Strathmore, Alberta passed away on February 6, 2020 at Calgary, Alberta at the age of 86 years.  Shirley was born in Coaldale, Alberta, the oldest of five children, to Bert and Mary Moulton.  The family moved to Hussar in 1944 where she attended school and later nursing school at the Holy Cross Hospital.

Shirley married Eric Knudsen in 1955 and together they farmed and raised three children, Kathy (Wayne), Robert (Rae-Ann) and Donna (Glenn).

Through the years, Shirley and Eric enjoyed community life, traveling with friends, spending their retirement winters in Yuma and square dancing.  Shirley was very artistic, cultivated music in her children, and was a wonderful seamstress and cook.

Shirley is survived by her children, eight grandchildren, Lana, Blair (Rachel), Leah (Cam), Debbie (Dusty), Carl, Erin (Garry) Josie (Mike) and Laurel (Kyle); eight great-grandchildren, Avery, Dawsyn & Harper, Spencer, Olivia & Maddison and Sophie & Logan; her sister Barb, sister-in-laws Joanne and Dana, brother-in-law Dick and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, her parents, brothers Gordon and Craig and sister Marjorie.  

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2020 at Hope Community Covenant Church Strathmore at 2:00 pm.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Strathmore Lodge for their care and kindness shown to Mom during her time there.   And a special thanks to our Aunt Barb for her support and direction.
