Obituary of Bruce Philip Heming

On May 21, 2020, Bruce Heming, a 29-year resident of Strathmore, Alberta, passed away at the age of 79 years.

Bruce is survived by his wife of 33 years, Joanne Heming of Strathmore, AB; his brother Glen Heming (and his wife Linda) of Kelowna, BC; his sister-in-law, Palma Heming (widow of George) of Halifax NS,  his five children Jeff Heming of Calgary, AB, Torie Heming (and his wife Alaina) of Strathmore, AB, Corinne Ofstie (and her husband Dylan) of Calgary, AB, Keri Manzer (and her husband Geoff) of Airdrie, AB, and Lynn Albrecht (and her husband Colin) of Calgary, AB; his five grandchildren Corinna Albrecht, Lilia, Maggie and Jack Heming, and Benjamin Bruce Manzer, born May 24, 2020; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Bruce joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1962, eventually serving as a crime scene investigator. Bruce left the RCMP after 8 years of service to attend the University of Ottawa and obtain a law degree. Bruce practiced law in Calgary and Strathmore for 33 years until retiring in 2007. 

For most of his life, Bruce was an avid photographer and had an expert eye for finding beauty in all things. In his mid-50s, Bruce took up painting; experimenting with various mediums before discovering his talent for watercolour. Bruce was a long-time member of the Wheatland Society of Arts, serving as President for a number of years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Bruce’s name to Project HOPE, a non-profit organization that provides music, art and adapted physical education therapy to children with special needs aged 3-18 years in the Golden Hills School Division. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic no services will be held at this time. The family will announce a celebration of Bruce’s life when we are able to embrace one another once again.
