Obituary of Gary Earl LYONS

LYONS, Sgt. Gary Sgt. Gary Lyons (Rtd.) passed away at the age of 76 on July 2, 2016 in Strathmore, Alberta due to multiple illnesses. Gary will be deeply missed by his wife Joyce (Brown) of 51 years, his daughters Shannon, Erin, and Colleen, son-in-law Curtis, granddaughter Mary, brother Lorne of Edmonton, sister Muriel (Alan) Kohut of Wetaskiwin, sister-in-law Lucille Lyons of Black Diamond, brothers-in-law Michael and Neil Brown and sisters-in-law Bev Bidinoff and Pat Wyndham and their respective families. Gary retired with a Long Service Medal after a distinguished 20-year career with the RCMP. He then enjoyed a second rewarding career as Western Regional Sales Manager with Baker Hughes Mining Tools. Gary was valued for his leadership and personal integrity and earned much industry recognition. Gary always made time for his family and was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. In his retirement, Gary was a Guard at the Strathmore RCMP Detachment. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, Al Azhar Shriners, and Big Country Shrine Club. He will be remembered for his quick wit, memorable one-liners, and genuine love of people. His family wishes to express their deep appreciation to his medical team, especially Dr. E. Muller, and all the staff at the Strathmore Hospital for their extraordinary care and compassion. Gary was fortunate enough to enjoy a living memorial in recent months with his family and friends. At his request, there will only be a private family memorial at the RCMP Depot Columbarium.
