Obituary of Mary ARMSTRONG

ARMSTRONG, Mary Mary Armstrong, of Hussar, Alberta, died peacefully at the age of 94, surrounded by family on Monday, June 6, 2016 in Calgary Alberta. She was born on March 24, 1922 in Bassano, Alberta to William and Emily (Marusyk) Slemko and was the youngest of four children. She married the love of her life, Leonard Armstrong, on June 1, 1939 and together they raised four children. She lived a full life; we marveled at what she could accomplish in a day – day after day! Mom lived for her family and leaves them a legacy of love, laughter, traditions, family recipes, 44 years of weather, family information and daily life recorded in diaries, as well as many family gathering memories to cherish. Mary was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Leonard, her sister, Effie and her brother, John. She is survived by her brother, Mike Slemko and will be lovingly missed by her children, Barb (Niels) Larsen, Janet (Merrill) Honeyman, Gordon (Joan) Armstrong and Debbie (Colin) McLaren, her 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Her sweet everlasting smile and sparkling chestnut eyes brightened our days; we will greatly miss her loving ways. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 13, 2016 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church (Hussar), at 2:00 p.m. Lunch to follow at the Hussar Community Hall. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s memory directly to the Alzheimer’s Society of Calgary (201, 222-58 Ave. SW, Calgary, T2H 2S3 or online at www.alzheimercalgary.ca) or the Hussar Cemetery (109-1 Ave East, Box 100, Hussar, T0J 1S0).
