Barry Milton Chase (Bucky) - Hard to know where to start to describe Bucky. I met Bucky in grade 4 at Acadia elementary school. From that time on I think most of us that knew him realized what a special and talented person he was. He excelled scholastically all through school from elementary onwards. He won numerous scholastic rewards as he made his way through school. He received a grade of 100% in accounting 30 for the entire school year in grade 12. His grade 12 average was over 90% for the entire year. He played volleyball, soccer, basketball, baseball, hockey, football, ran track&field through elementary, junior high, senior high school and beyond and pretty much excelled at every one of them (except hockey, terrible ankler, but he had a nose for the net/puck). He set track&field and football records in school. He could punt a football in high school as good as any CFL player. He was able to hit home runs at will it seemed in baseball.
His scholastic and sports accomplishments were many. However the best memories for me are the times we spent at Ace and Lois’s apartment hanging out/drinking beer/playing poker/listening to Ace on the couch feed us one liners and Lois put him in his place, Ace and Bucky racing each other outside the apartment with Ace in his socks and nearly beating Bucky, cruising around in Bucky’s orange VW beetle (usually we had to push it to start it), playing pinball at the carriage house, long weekends in Kalispell Montana at the hole in the wall at Stockman’s bar, pizza at little big mans in Kalispell, playing fastball with the 50 smokers and beating the Dogans, watching the NCAA final four and Stanley cup playoffs together. The list goes on and on.
It was a privilege for me to have Bucky as a friend and share so many laughs and good times together.
One final Red Devil Rally in your honor my friend. RIP.
My condolences to Joanne, Travis, Lois, Karen, Del and the Family on the loss of Barry. His memory will live on in all of us who knew him.
I, I did it all
I owned every second that this world could give
I saw so many places, the things that I did
Yeah with every broken bone
I swear I lived
