Obituary of Jean Dora KIRBY

KIRBY, Jeanie Dora October 1, 1927 – April 10, 2016 Jeanie Dora Kirby (née Medwid), aged 88, left us April 10, 2016. She was born in Norquay, Saskatchewan to Mike and Annie Medwid and moved to Winnipeg in her late teens to follow her dreams. She met Charles at a home-coming dance for World War II soldiers in 1946 and married him November 19 of that year. In Redland, she and Charles found the perfect location to raise three children and build her dream home. She took pride in her work on the farm, at home, and in the community, including the Redland Good Neighbours’ Club, the Severn Creek Home and School, the Rockyford Ladies Auxiliary, Rockyford Friendship Centre, and the Rockyford United Church. After 67 years, due to declining health, Jeanie moved into the Wheatland Lodge in Strathmore, later the Prince of Peace Manor near Calgary, and finally the Foothills Country Hospice where friends and caregivers spoke of their love for her and how precious she was to them. Her brother Bill, and sisters Marie and Elaine and their families survive her. Also, her children Shirley, Gerald (Beth), and Debbie (Dennis); grandchildren Jeffrey and Sarah Thomsen, Shane and Scott Kirby, Kristie Michelle Signer; great-grand-children Veronica Thomsen-Davis, Avin, Quin, and Ember Thomsen, Javier, Cristobal, and Andres Kirby, Caleb and Keira Kirby, Tim and Laura Getz, nephews, nieces, second cousins and their families miss and remember her always. She is predeceased by her husband, Charles, brothers, John, Mike, Russell, Mac and Don; grand-daughter, Tanya Signer; and great-grand-daughter, Scarlett Grey Thomsen-Davis. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Rockyford Community Centre at 2:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made directly to Foothills Country Hospice (P. O. Box 274, Okotoks, AB, T1S 1A5 or online at countryhospice.org). To send condolences, please click on the link below or email directly to: condolences@wheatlandfuneralhome.ca. Send Condolences
