Obituary of Matilda KOESTER

KOESTER, Matilda ‘Tillie’ February 14, 1930 – January 23, 2016 With sadness we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She nurtured a vibrant family leaving behind three generations to hold her memory dear including her children Allan, Marilyn, Donald, Gordon, Dorothy, Frances, Patricia and Joanne; their spouses Ian Crichton, Jamie (Sangster) Koester, Darlene (Newton) Koester, Gerald Geeraert, Sandy Garriott, Rob McColl and Jim Clark; 21 grandchildren and their spouses; and 27 great grandchildren had been placed into her arms. She was born February 14,1930, the eleventh child of Helen and John Weisgerber, homesteaders in the Schuler area. She is survived by one brother, three sisters in law and many nieces and nephews and their families. She moved to Rockyford in 1949 when she married Joe Koester and dedicated herself to a loving 61 year marriage till 2010 when he pre deceased her. She knew she was born to be a mother and wholeheartedly turned her attention to raising and providing for her 8 children. The smell of freshly baked buns, apple pie and Sunday fried chicken still lingers. She watched with pride, as her family grew and having everyone around for the holidays and special occasions was her greatest joy. Her generosity and love of family live on in us all and although we will miss her bright eyes and sweet smile we carry on with the life lessons she taught us; never be afraid to hug, say your prayers, and stay close as a family. Relying on a strong faith her illness did not dampen her will to live and love. As a family we are forever grateful and extend our thanks to Dr. Maria Muller and to all the people that helped her during her illness and to all those who supported us during this time. Any donations or volunteer actions that support the charities of your choice will fulfill her wish to always remember those less fortunate than yourself. The family thanks you in advance for honoring her in this way. A prayer service will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at St. Rita’s Catholic Church (Rockyford) at 7:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at St. Rita’s Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. To send condolences, please click the link below or email directly to condolences@wheatlandfuneralhome.ca.
