Obituary of Kenneth Christian Menard

March 29,1943 - December 15,2020

Our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away at the age of 77 years. Ken is survived by his wife,Toni; three daughters, Debbie, Michelle (Glenn), Tammy (Victor); seven grandchildren, Christian, Michael (Amanda), Steven, Jennifer (Mario), Daniel (Stacy), Meadow, and Maximus; as well as 11 great grandchildren.

Ken was a Red Seal welder learning the trade from his father in law , during this time they ran a shop together in Blackfalds , Alberta. His next endeavour was to start his own company. With a dream and a welding rig he started Industrial Welding. This took him all over Alberta where he made many friends and explored a lot of new country. Due to a back injury life would take several turns for Ken. He went back to school and became a welding Instructor working at Red Deer College. He decided to challenge himself and got his class 1 license and hauled logs for a couple of winters but decided this was not for him. He took the opportunity to work with his family and spend time with his grandchildren and fulfilled another passion of his, cooking. He poured his heart into it and ran cafes and service stations from Fox Creek to Stettler. He decided to dust off his welding helmet and went back to teaching, for Northern Lakes College in Slave Lake, Alberta. He  setup  the apprenticeship and pre employment trades program  and eventually retired  and settled in Strathmore to be closer to his family. A big highlight of his life was to be able to teach 2 of his grandsons the welding trade. Ken enjoyed camping, coffee, fishing and working on antique cars, sharing his knowledge with whoever wanted to learn. He also enjoyed animals of all kinds but especially horses.

A celebration of life will be held once it is safe to do so. Ken’s family would like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr Young and the caregivers at Agecare  Sagewood.

We love you Dad, you will forever be in our hearts.
