Obituary of Lorna Alice Winnifred STOCKWELL
STOCKWELL, Lorna Alice
After a life well lived, Lorna Alice Stockwell passed away peacefully at the Strathmore Hospital Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at the age of 76. She was born July 9, 1939 in Vermilion, Alberta. She was predeceased by her husband Tom in 1987 and is survived by her children, Nelson (Rhonda) and Barbara (Herman); grandchildren, Brienne (Mitch) Chabot, Erin (Dotan) Stockwell, Alicea (Isaac) Praeker, Tanner (Kimberley) Stockwell, Francis (Jena) Praeker, Geordie Praeker, Cole (Breanne) Praeker; great grandchildren, Jack and Alexis Praeker , Reese and Madison Chabot and Brinley Stockwell and her Furry Friend, Canuck. Lorna is also survived by her sisters, Joan Roberge of Lloydminister and Alva (Harry) Creech of Vermilion as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Lorna was born in Vermilion and raised in the Clandonald area, with the Allendale School situated in the same yard where they lived. Lorna and Joan’s job in the winter was to head to the school early in the morning and light the fire in the pot belly stove so it was warm when the other students arrived. After graduating from High School Lorna worked as a telephone operator in Lloydminister and during this time she met Tom and they were married on July 2, 1957. They operated school buses in the Clandonald area and this is where Nelson Clifford was born in April 1959. Shortly after, an opportunity arose to purchase school buses in the Rockyford area, prompting the young couple to uproot and settle in their new community. Barbara Alice was born in May 1961 and from there their busy lives continued, raising their young family and operating their fleet of school buses with the greatest of commitment and care. They came to love Rockyford and area and were both involved in many activities. When Tom passed away in Oct 1987, Lorna continued to operate the business until 1999. At this time she sold the business to Southland Transportation, and moved to her retirement home in Strathmore. Lorna kept busy with a part time job and treasured travelling the world with Joan, visiting each of the continents and spending their winters in warmer climates down south. Lorna’s greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, always going above and beyond and working behind the scenes to support and attend each activity, sporting event and special moments in their lives. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Manocha and the wonderful staff at the Strathmore Hospital for such excellent, loving care. Everyone was exceptionally caring and compassionate towards Lorna. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Hope Community Covenant Church (245 Brent Blvd Strathmore) at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lorna’s memory to the Cheadle Lion’s Hospice Project (RR1, Site 3, Box 22, Strathmore, AB, T1P 1J6).
