Marg had two of the most important jobs in the world. First as a Mother, secondly as a Grade One teacher . She did them both with love and enthusiasm.
A supportive colleague, Marg could help you with a straightforward solution to a problem and not confound you with educational jargon.
Her community interests were many and varied and reflected her concern for the well-being of others as well as her own zest for living.
My lasting memory of Marg is of her proudly showing pictures of her latest great grandchild. I think she had her priorities straight.

I'm very sorry to find out than a childhood idle of mine has passed. You probably don't remember me as we were together when we were young children. Going to your home was one of my fondest childhood memories. I remember being very young (I suspect I wasn't in school yet) when Chrissy was born. I remember holding her and thinking Margie, my Hero, had provided me a playmate. Seeing as I had a brother and there were 3 boys in the house and our names rhymed I was convinced she was for me. I remember playing Dressup, Kindergarten (the whole basement was made for us), and theatrical performances. Margie was one of my few adult friends she insisted I not call her Mrs Eeles. I am sorry we didn't keep in touch as life moved on for both of our families. Sending love and I hope my story reminds you all what a wonderful imprint she made on a small child in her presence. Marg & Art Eeles are both so well loved and appreciated in this town, County and beyond that it becomes difficult to find adequate words to describe the impact they have on one. We moved to Strathmore in 1973 to a small teacherage
In Glenwood, meeting Marg & Art first at the United Church. They were among the first to welcome us, invite us to join the Wheatland Whirlers, and to introduce Dean to his fellow staff members at Westmount School where he and Marg were colleagues for years until they both retired.
When we purchased our new (very old) house two doors from them, Marg volunteered the world's best babysitter in Christine who was about to start babysitting. She was invaluable as we renovated our house and it became a family joke in both families that Dean paid for Christine's trip to England and also that she helped raise Dena and David. Chris babysat for us until Basil took her away in marriage!
Dena made mention of the donut making adventures Marg invited Dena & David to enjoy. One of Marg's memories of those events noted that David turned up missing when they sat to visit after making the donuts. He was in the kitchen still, happily spinning on the wonderful kitchen chair. Who knew chairs could have wheels!
Marg and I spent many hours together at many Thrift Sales organizing shoes, boots, purses, puzzles and children's books in the smallest room in the church basement. I value the memories of those days. As Marg's physical health declined she became the puzzle lady, sitting to tape puzzle boxes while still offering her gifts of humour, history and love.
Marg was such a blessing in so many lives and will be long remembered and cherished.

Marg's passing leaves a big hole in the hearts of the Strathmore community. I was in Grade Nine at Samuel Crowther School and Art was our Home Room and Math teacher. I think it was 1956. Elvis and Johnny Cash ruled the radio, the '56 Ford was a cool car and we were the coolest kids or so we thought. We learned about "cool" when the gym turned into a ballroom and Mr and Mrs. Eeles took over the dancefloor. Man, could they do the JIVE! Stand back amateurs!
A few months ago, Marg and Art accepted an invitation to join my Grade One classmates for a reunion lunch. I was a thrill to feel young again and share memories with our still loved teachers.

Marg was fun - fun to be with, fun to work with, and so much more. She was hard-working, astute, honest (the list could go on) and a good friend who loved life and shared it with all around her.
We all looked forward to her wit and sense of humour as stage director for the Gleichen & District Community Choirs’ many performances She could manage up to 60 people, cradle a baby, and keep a group of 20 men organized and dressed in the men’s changing room - no easy task. She would also make the lunch for many of our long practices letting the rest of us get on with the show.
Art, you performed many roles on stage for the choir, always with class and finesse. Marg eagerly awaited each, and was your greatest admirer. She adored you; your deep love and respect for each other was an example for us all.
Marg treasured her family and was so proud of each of you: children and their spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were at the centre of
conversations.

The Eeles house was two doors down from the house where I grew up in Strathmore (where my parents still live today). So much of my childhood is tied up in my childhood home, and that of the Eeles. One of the great memories from when both my brother David and I were very little, was when we would get a phone call to come on down, and make doughnuts with Mrs. Eeles in her kitchen... getting messy, eating warm sweet treats, and being able to take some back home to our parents.
There are certain things from childhood that speak to love and home, and Mrs. Eeles will always be a big part of that to me.

To my extended family. Our hearts goes out to all of you. Marg has been a hugh part of my life. Marg was my grade one teacher. She loved to remind me that she would have to call my brothers to pick me up on Thursday's after school, as I was always to sick to go to Catechism! I wasn't really sick, I just didn't like to go to Catechism. I spent so much time at the Eeles residence as my two sisters ended up marrying Steve and Kevin. They didn't have a third brother for me to marry as Pat was already taken so they named me their honorary daughter. Our two families have a special bond and we are thankful that we had Marg in my life for so many years. God bless you all and thank you Marg for all the memories.
I would also like to send condolences from my father Norman Hendricks. Like dad said the Eeles family is part of our family and Marg will be missed.

It is with saddened hearts that we learned of Mrs. Eeles's passing. She was such a pillar in our community and a great champion of children. "Kids say the darndest things" floated her boat and she'd always have an anecdote or two to share anytime we were lucky enough to cross her path. Mrs. Eeles never forgot a name and could recall tales of what your children did and said in her classroom years ago that tickled her funny bone. We will never forget the time we were meeting for a Parent/Teacher's night to discuss report cards. As concerned parents you always wonder what is best. That night the reply was, "You know - your kids are going to turn out in spite of you." No wiser words were said and ones we will never forget and especially the sweet lady who quoted them. She will be missed, but not forgotten. Love and sympathy to you, Mr. Eeles and all your family who will miss her even more.

I am so sad to hear of the loss of Mrs Eels as I wish I could’ve seen her spunky little face one more time. She was my grade 1 and 5 teacher and my favourite (besides Mr Eels of course)! Mrs Eels made my grade 1 experience so great that it set the stage for my love of school throughout the years. I will always remember her amazing spunky energy and her quick walking!!! I remember one time the lights were shorting in the classroom and she said “are the lights flickering or am I going into a coma!”. Haha, we all laughed. With so much love and sincerity I offer my condolences and love for this amazing lady who I will never forget.
Also a side note, Mr Eels is also a fond memory of mine and especially because he is still with us, I want to pass on that he opened my eyes in high school math. Also just thinking of him and his sarcastic humour makes me laugh. Please give him a hug for me! Candice Klaiber class of 92

Dear Art and family,
I will not forget when you visited the Yukon and I toured you around Dawson City. We capped the afternoon with a drive up the midnight dome above the town. I had the privilege of spending quite a bit of time growing up at their house with my parents. Both Art and Marg always engaged me in fun learning activities as a kid which stuck with me all my life.

We were so saddened to hear of Marg’s passing. I have known Marg and Art since they moved into the teacherage down the street from our family in Glenwood. As their family grew, I would babysit for them, even when they moved to a bigger house in the town proper. When I entered High School, I had the privilege of having Art for a teacher and a sports coach. When Gordon and I sent our own children to school, they were lucky enough to have Marg for a teacher for Grade One at Westmount School. When they reached High School, the oldest two had Art for a teacher. The circle just kept going. Marg contributed so much to the community, not just by teaching our children, but by all the volunteering she would do. Marg always had a smile on her face and was up for a visit whenever we would bump into each. She always inquired about how our children were doing. Our whole community is going to miss this lovely woman. Our sincere condolences to Art, Steven, Kevin, Patrick and Christine and all of their families. Art, I can only imagine how much you will miss your beautiful bride.

Marg was a fabulous woman that was always very direct with full truth when we visited with her and Art. I have known them for about 43 years and learnt from her and enjoyed her jokes and her very caring and welcoming personality. The cards and board games we played were so much fun and with many laughs she will always be remembered. She was a very strong and determined woman that has left a great family that will always keep her in their hearts. We are so sorry to hear of Marg’s passing. She was a beacon of optimism and hope in our congregation at Strathmore United Church. Marg and Art watched our four children grow up in the church and were always so supportive. We remember Marg enjoying concerts at Arts on 817 and Carolyn enjoyed her professional friendship as a fellow teacher. Our condolences to Art and the entire Eeles family. Marg will be always loved and sorely missed.

To all the Eeles Families, we are so sorry for your loss.
We have had so many great times with Marg and you Art and all the Eeles Clan. We have shared Weddings, Baptisms, Birthday Parties, Graduations, Anniversaries and who can forget those great Karaoke Parties. Through them all, Marg always treated us Hendricks Kids ‘As’ Family. We will miss her quick wit and kind Heart.
