Obituary of Roy Frederick TAIT

TAIT, Roy Frederick It is with great sadness that the Tait/Laprise families say goodbye to our Uncle Roy. Roy Frederick Tait was born in Alviston, Ontario on November 9, 1925 where he was raised with his four brothers and one sister on the family farm. Roy farmed at Inwood, Ontario for 28 years following his two years of service in WWII. After that, Roy moved west, ultimately working with his first cousin Alex Tait in his hot-shot business, and wintering in San Antonio, Texas. A few years after retiring, he moved to Strathmore, Alberta to be closer to Alex’s daughter, Kathryn, and his nieces, Vivian MacCallum (Maurice Laprise) of Cluny, AB and Gwen Tait (Darlene Scott) of Calgary. Roy lived at Sunset Haven for 18 years, where he played 100+ rounds of golf a year and socialized with his friends. He was a great patron of the Strathmore Library system. He had recently moved to Wheatland Lodge when his health began to deteriorate. He went to Strathmore Hospital on July 29 and passed away on August 8. He will be remembered as an active senior with a quick wit and a generous spirit. He is pre-deceased by his mother and father, Winifred and Robert Tait; brothers Ralph, Ken, Harry and Jim; sister Kathleen; sisters-in-law Dorothy and Doris. He is survived by sisters-in-law Norma and Nola as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews. A come-and-go celebration of Roy’s life will be held at the MacCallum’s home at 16 Wheeler Place, Strathmore on August 29, 2015 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made directly to the Strathmore District Health Services Foundation, 200 Brent Boulevard, Strathmore, AB. T1P 1J9.
