Obituary of William Garnet McCALLUM

McCALLUM, William Garnet “Billie” Billie passed away with his loving family and friends by his side after a strong fight with cancer. William Garnet McCallum was born in the Rosetown Union Hospital on October 7, 1960. He passed away Monday, June 22, 2015 at the Strathmore Hospital. Billie attended school in Rosetown and graduated from school in 1978. He then stepped into the fuel business with Neil in Rosetown until 1987. From there he went to work for Shell Canada in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan until 1995. He moved back to Rosetown and worked at Western sales for a couple of years and in 1998 he moved to Strathmore, Alberta where he made this his family home. He resided there until his passing. Real-Estate became his lifelong occupation, and although sometimes it was very stressful, he made it a success. Billie loved the lake and being in water. He spent summers at Aquadeo Beach and Emma Lake. Spending time watching his kids playing sports was his favorite thing to do. Connor and Hailey kept him very busy going from town to town, rink to rink, and ball diamond to ball diamond. He enjoyed watching the kids friends just as much as if they were his own and made many new friends wherever they took him with his funny stories and his jokes. Whenever you talked to Billie, he had stories about how great of athletes his kids were. You knew the pride he had for them. You never left Billie’s side without a smile or a laugh. Billie was survived by his four children Megan and Morgan Wingate, and Connor (Quinn) and Hailey McCallum; his brothers Neil (Kathie), Jason (Leah) and nieces and nephews Scott (Bobbi) Delowsky, Marlie (Joey) Green, and Sheri Delowsky, Shae and Tommy McCallum; step-father Durwood Cowell and step-family Guy (Barb) Cowell, children Kevin (Jamie) and Mike (Lisa), Paula (Brian) Lavigne and children Kristin (Todd), Adam (Laura) and Brennan, Scott (Julie) Cowell and their son Dan, Linda (Gill) Jouan and their children Bryce, Chantal and Nicole, along with a few great nieces and nephews. Two very special people in his life, Barry (Shelly) Kalika and Barry (Kathy) Aldridge; the mothers of his children Sharon Wingate and Mary-Jane Sauve, and other immediate and extended family and friends. Billie was predeceased by his father Cal McCallum in 1979, his mother Isabel Cowell in 2007 and his favorite hunting dog Sparky in 2014. A celebration of Billie’s life will be held on Friday June 26, 2015 at Hope Community Covenant Church (245 Brent Blvd., Strathmore) at 1:00 p.m. Donations in memory of Billie may be made to a trust fund at either the Strathmore or Rosetown RBC to support Connor and Hailey’s education.
