Obituary of Bette Mae PAPP

PAPP, Bette Mae (Williams) December 4, 1923 – January 18, 2015 Born December 4, 1923 in Bassano, Alberta, Bette lived on the family farm at Queenstown (Milo) with her parents Steven and Viola Williams and her three sisters Frances, Joan, and Helen until she went to Normal School at age 17. She taught in the Hussar and Chancellor districts and, after marrying John, taught in Crowfoot until they moved to the family farm in Queenstown in 1947. They farmed there and in Cluny until retiring in 1993. Bette was active in the Home and School Association and the FWUA. Bette was loved and will be sadly missed by her son John S. Papp of Victoria, B.C.; her daughter and son-in-law Joan and Lyle Winch of Surrey, B.C.; grandchildren Lisa, Melanie (Chris), and Stephanie (David) Winch, and Wesley (Nicole) and Julie Papp; sister Helen Anderson of Bothell, WA; sisters-in-law Mary Anne (Eldon) Peterson, Billy Papp, and Sharon Papp; many special nieces and nephews; and a host of wonderful friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband John M. Papp; parents Steve and Viola Williams; sisters and husbands Fran (Frank) Fraser and Joan (Murray) Van Camp; brother-in-law Bud Anderson; parents-in-law John and Mary Papp; and brothers-in-law George and Carl Papp. Mom was a very social person who loved entertaining and, in years gone by, there were many happy times in the house on the farm with Dad and his friends playing music while Mom and the rest of the gang danced and sang. Of course there was always lots of food! You never left Bette’s house without being fed and entertained with lots of laughter. She was a caregiver, always looking after her family and friends in their time of need. She was everyone’s best friend! The family would like to extend their thanks to all Bette’s friends who have helped her through the last few years with their love and caring. Many thanks to the caregivers who looked after her here in Sagewood and Bethany Calgary. Donations in Bette’s memory may be made directly to the Strathmore Handi-Bus (Town of Strathmore, 680 Westchester Rd., Strathmore, T1P 1J1).
