Obituary of William Walter Olsen

William “Bill” Olsen of Strathmore passed away Oct. 14, 2021 at the age of 80.  He is survived by his wife of 35 years Marilyn; daughters Kim Svoboda and Heather (Brian) Brown all of Texas USA; grandchildren Stephanie (Andy) , Jordan (Amanda), Chynna, Regan (Adrian) and Michael; and 6 great grandchildren Allison, Bentley, Braylee, David, Banks, and baby girl Moncayo (arriving in January).

Bill was born in Fort Worth, TX and raised on the family farm in Azle, TX with his brothers Bert, John (Jan) and Jim who all survive him.  The stories of snakes, pitchfork sword fights and such will live on.  He is also survived by brother-in-law Bob Wheatley.  The Olsen family wants to thank Bob for his support to Marilyn.

He is loved by nieces and nephews, John (Kari), Scott (David), Grady (Misty), Michelle (Bob), Derek (Hiedi), Lisa, Chad (Lisa), Cam, Robin (Dan), Jonathan (Katie) and Deanna (Nathan).

As a kid he had a special show sheep “George” and together they won title after title throughout Texas.  He always intended to write a kids book about George and loved telling stories about him.  Bill spent his adult years as a hatter, working for Resistol Hats for over 35 years and after retiring he redeveloped the felt program for Smithbilt.  He was very good at what he did.   He also built and renovated houses and he took much pride in the houses he worked on. 

Bill immigrated to Canada in 1993 and was proud and grateful when he got his Canadian citizenship. 

Bill is predeceased by sons Chance and Christopher, his parents Bert and Marie, in laws Fred and Veronica Wheatley, son in law Sammy Svoboda and brother-in-law Bill Wheatley.
