Obituary of Arnold Julian DALEN

DALEN, Arnold Arnold was born October 1st, 1929 in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan and passed away January 11th, 2015 in Strathmore, Alberta. Arnold was raised on the family farm in Fox Valley Saskatchewan. He was one of four children and part of a very busy, hardworking life supporting the chores that are a part of farm life in that era. As with all the farm children Arnold would wake early in the morning to do his chores before school then walk two miles to and from the country school and finish his day with more chores and homework. This work ethic continued throughout his life. Arnold completed three journeyman certificates in plumbing, steam fitting and gas fitting and worked for the Calgary Board of Education for nearly thirty five years. When he wasn’t at work he was busy building and perfecting the family home in Calgary. He will always be remembered for his expert skill, creative approach and love for carpentry and woodworking. Arnold married the love of his life, June, in 1952 and they had two children. They worked hard together to care and provide for their family. Arnold and June enjoyed a long retirement together and rejoiced in spending time with their four grandchildren. They celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary in June 2012 the same year Queen Elizabeth celebrated the Diamond Jubilee. Arnold spent the last fifteen years in Strathmore with June enjoying each other’s companionship until June passed away in October of 2013. The past year Arnold struggled with this loss more than any of us ever imagined. Arnold is survived by his son and daughter, Danny (Gaylene) and Cindy (Deryk); his four loving grandchildren Kayle, Chelsey, Ethan and Bryce; his sister Ellen; and two brothers Ivan and Larry. Arnold’s strength, determination and work ethic will be remembered by us all.
