Obituary of John Andre van der Laan

John van der Laan passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family, on March 8, 2022 at the age 66 years, after a brave and courageous battle with cancer.
 

Born and raised in St. Catharines, Ontario and educated at Brock University.

John started his career in Newfoundland, where he met his wife Judy of 41 years. Together they moved to Calgary in 1980, where John pursued a career in geology.

John loved his work, however he loved his family more. He was a proud Dad to his sons Daniel and Adrian. John took great pride in being involved in his sons' lives from coaching, camping, boating, travel and all things in between, including that of teaching his sons how to be great human beings.

John was a man of great faith with strong convictions which he stood by.

He will be forever missed by his family.

 

John was Predeceased by his father, Peter van der Laan and step father Lawrence Hall.

 

He will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Judy; two sons, Daniel and Adrian(Mikayla); mother, Andrea Hall; two sisters, Anita Bodde, Debra(Volker); nieces, Seana Lynn(Zach), Erin(Ryan) and great niece, sweet baby Wila.

 

We would like to say a huge thank-you to the Medical team at Tom Baker Cancer Centre for their care and also to our family doctor, Dr. Maria Muller for her exceptional love and care in John’s final days.

 

A Funeral Service was held Monday, March 14th, 2022 at 2 pm at Hope Community Covenant Church, Strathmore, Alberta.
