Obituary of Gerald Francis Barstad

Gerry(G.F.) Barstad passed away suddenly in Calgary, AB on May 10, 2022 at the age of 89 years.

Born Aug 15, 1932, in Wood Mountain, SK to Elvin & Eva Barstad, the 4th child of 13. He was a grain buyer for Pioneer Grain then worked for the Town of Gleichen before moving to Calgary in 1965 where he worked as a steam/gasfitter for Trotter & Morton. He moved back to Gleichen to the home place and was the local plumber for many years.

Gerry was very active in the community and enjoyed curling, fishing, playing music with Rosella Pietz & Friends Band and of course the annual birthday party that brought many family & friends from near and far. In 2017 he lost his house to wildfire at which time he took up residence in Strathmore until his passing.

Gerry was predeceased by his wife Terry, parents Eva & Elvin, brothers Fred, Mel Bud, Errol, Duane Ron, Leonard, Gord & sister Helen Talbot. He is survived by his daughter Leslie (Rob) Wilcox; grandson Derek (Dallas) Wilcox; great grandchildren Fynn, Sully & Harper; brother Robert (Karen); sister Elvina; close sister-in-law Denise Schweer; and numerous other family members.

Gerry will be missed by all as he was our book of knowledge and enjoyed passing it on.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cluny, at 11:00 a.m. Interment and lunch to follow in Gleichen.
