Robert Pool

Obituary of Robert Arthur Pool

Born in Eston, Saskatchewan on October 7, 1951
Passed Away in Standard, Alberta on July 30, 2022

Rob Pool passed away unexpectedly at home on July 30, 2022 at the age of 70 years.

He leaves behind a brother Russ, sister-in-law Deb and their children Adam, Ryan and Kelsey, all of Australia. He also leaves behind many cousins and friends.

Rob was always up for a good ‘tongue wag’ with anyone he encountered: friends, neighbors and strangers. He came to know many folks from all over the province with his meat delivery service and kept in contact with many of them even after retirement. He cared deeply for people, and was truly interested in their lives, stories and opinions. He valued the experience and opinions of others when making decisions and he would carefully take into consideration the viewpoints offered. He rarely, if ever, made a snap decision, and in the end he did what he knew suited him best. He was an educated and intelligent man, but he had no use for technology, going old school with his land line and Canada Post. Rob loved chatting on the phone, politics, the New York Rangers, baseball tryouts, reading books, watching Christmas movies, and going for his daily walks. He loved children and the elderly. He had a boisterous and hearty laugh, and he laughed a lot. He thought life was great fun.  He considered carefully where his hard earned money would be spent; joyfully relishing any bargain that he was able to negotiate.  If you met and had a good conversation with Rob, you probably never forgot him; it was abundantly clear that he loved people and was interested in what they had to say. He was a solid and loyal friend.  Auggie the doggy will be overjoyed to see Rob again and vice versa, but those of us he left behind shall miss him sorely. Rest peacefully, our friend.

There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, October 1 at the Standard Senior Centre (814 The Broadway Street) at 1 pm. We hope you share your stories and memories with us all. If you wish to make a donation in Rob’s name, you may do so at the Standard Library.
