Obituary of Barbara Agnes Walls
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our Mother, Barb Walls (nee Geeraert) on Sunday November 6, 2022.
Barb was born in Calgary to Lillian and Louie Geeraert of Rockyford, Alberta. Barb was the fourth oldest child in the family. Barb was raised on the farm and went to school in Rockyford and Strathmore. At a dance in Rockyford she met the love of her life Tim Walls. They were married and had three beautiful children Brad, Corey and Tara. Barb and Tim first resided in Calgary then moved to Ardenode where she took care of her family on their farm. Barb and Tim grew a successful business called Wheatland Blasting, but she also worked at the Wheatland Lodge and at the Home Hardware in Strathmore where she loved selling flowers and helping customers. She had a love of gardening and a green thumb to go with it. Every time there was an opportunity to work in the garden, especially taking care of her flowers, it made her incredibly happy. Lastly, although she did not work there, you could also find Barb at the Tim Hortons in town getting her one of many coffees throughout the day that always had 3 cream and 1 sugar. When you saw mom, you saw a Timmies coffee close by, sometimes four! Through the years mom’s health unfortunately depleted and therefore had to step away from both jobs. However, she did enjoy the fact that she got to spend the newfound time with her grandchildren, a total of six and many more that called her nanna. She loved spending time with her grandchildren teaching them how to drive the gator, garden and cook. She had a caring heart, a great sense of humor, a helping hand, and was there when you needed her. Mom also loved Christmas and if you had ever been to her house, you could easily tell this to be true from the Christmas villages to the thousands of decorations that were always put up. She also loved Christmas Markets, and it did not matter if it was a friend of the families, you were carrying something out of there for her!
Barb is survived by Tim her best friend, sons Brad (Crystal) and Corey (Kendra) and daughter Tara (Barb) and eight grandchildren: Jared, Emma, Arianna, Mya, Logan, Payton, Kaiden and Riley. She is also survived by Brothers: Ron Geeraert (Dani), Murray Geeraert, Gary Geeraert (Kim), Sisters: Brenda (Paul) Marshall, Laurie-Anne Keeler (Howard), Lenora Bigelow (Dale) and numerous cousins and great cousins. Barb is predeceased by her parents Lillian and Louie Geeraert, sister in-law Gwen Geeraert, and Nephew Trevor Marshall.
Sadly, God took our mother way too soon after she suffered a massive stroke on Friday November 4, 22 and passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Sunday, November 6, 2022.
The family wants to thank Dr. Demchuk, Head Nurse Heather and their teams for the exceptional care they gave our mom at the Foothills Hospital. We also want to thank everyone who has reached out to the family during this time, we all appreciate your love and support.
As per her wishes no funeral service will be held. A stop in and visit with the family memorial will be held at the Strathmore Legion, upstairs, on December 10, 2022 from 1-4pm.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made directly to the Foothills Hospital Neurosciences Unit 112 in her memory.
