Obituary of Charles Griffen HOLBROOK

HOLBROOK, Charles “Chuck” Griffen Charles “Chuck” Griffen Holbrook of Blind Bay, BC passed away at the Strathmore Hospital on Monday, September 4, 2017 at the age of 88 years. Chuck will be dearly missed by his children Jerry (Eleanor) Holbrook, Kelly (Donovan) Hagel, and Morgan (Diane) Holbrook; grandchildren Dan (Melissa) Hritic, Chuck, Morgan & Myles Holbrook, Jordan (Tamara) Hagel, Jay (Jamie) Hagel, and Jaclyn (Adam) Knight; great-grandchildren Curtis & Dylan Hritic and Kohan Hagel & Emmitt Hagel; siblings Marshall Holbrook, Emory (Gloria) Holbrook and Ethel George; brother-in-law John (Hilda) Good; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends and his faithful companion Socks the cat. He is predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Bernice and his son Don. Chuck was a successful business man in his years, owning and operating Wireline Pressures Ltd. He always enjoyed the oilfield, especially because it gave him the opportunity to experience all of Alberta and seek out every fishing hole that was close to where he was working. He was an accomplished wood worker. He would build cabinets, lamps, picture frames, hundreds of name signs for the Golf Course and turned out many salad bowls and candy dishes on his lathe. Chuck will be remembered for being a great outdoorsman and for being a “Master” of Fly Tying. He was tying hundreds of flys per year, enjoyed giving them away or selling them at the local barber shop and Marina. He didn’t do it for the money, he got great pleasure knowing that someone might be catching fish with his flys. Chuck was well known for just enjoying people and entertaining them with his sense of humor. This was especially evident in these last few years. The nurses could tell some pretty funny stories of our Dad and all his little poems and comebacks. Though there was always long distance between us, Dad enjoyed the times he could spend with his family, even if it had to be over the phone, which he always looked forward to. He was very grateful for his Blind Bay family as well: Tom & Jodie, Jessica, Riley and Bryden Marsh, Ken & Val Magel Family, Steven & Sharon Fabro Family, and his best buddies, Jim Smith and Ed Paul (Two Feathers). A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 1:30 pm at the Beiseker Community Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Chuck’s name to the Calgary Children’s Hospital Foundation (http://childrenshospitals.ca/).
