Obituary of Elviera Gertrude Sims

Vera Sims (nee Thiessen) passed away peacefully, with family at her side and in loving hands at the Seton AgeCare facility in Calgary, Alberta on December 15, 2022, at the age of 81 years.

 

Vera is survived by two sons; Kurt (Julie) Sims, and Clint (Laurel) Sims, as well as five grandchildren, Maxwell, Marshall, Erica, Connor, and Adam Sims.  She was predeceased by her mother Nellie Thiessen in 1991, father John Thiessen in 2007, sister Alice, in infancy, and brother Fred Thiessen in 2016.

 

Vera is also survived by two brothers and two sisters; John (Elaine) Thiessen, Mary (Tom) Slimmon, Werner Thiessen, and Hedy Mayes (and Ron), as well as numerous wonderful cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

 

Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 22, 2022, at Strathmore Alliance Church (First Avenue & Wheatland Trail), at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor John Duerksen officiating.  A social luncheon at the church will follow the service.  In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Strathmore District Hospital where Vera spent the majority of her nursing career (200 Brent Boulevard, Strathmore, Alberta T1P 1J9).
