Norman GIESBRECHT

Obituary of Norman GIESBRECHT

GIESBRECHT, Norman December 26th, 1946 – October 25th, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father and grandfather Norman Giesbrecht. Norm grew up in the New Bothwell area before moving to Saskatchewan where he met the love of his life, Marlene Carol Lamers. Norm and Marlene were married in 1967 and had four children. They eventually made their home in the Okanagan valley of British Columbia where they enjoyed hiking, picnicking and hosting many visiting family and friends. After Marlene passed in May of 2011 Norm relocated to Strathmore, to be closer to some of his family. His days were spent taking care of his grandson Owen and I’m sure he didn’t realize how often he would be chauffeuring kids to school in -25 degree temperatures but he never complained. He enjoyed watching football, weekly family dinners and discussing current events. His interest in the weather has been passed on to Owen who is becoming quite the young forecaster. We will miss his funny anecdotes, morning coffee visits and surprise supper dates. Norm had just visited his daughter Kim, in Kelowna, and was able to spend some quality time with his granddaughter Liv. Norm left behind to cherish his memory his oldest daughter Jo (Willie) Kauenhofen, Kim Giesbrecht, Lance (EunHye) Giesbrecht, Lindz Giesbrecht (Vince Kanarek), grandchildren Abby, Emma, Liv, Owen, Yuna and Hannah. A celebration of Norm’s life was held in Strathmore, AB. To send condolences, please click the link below. “In the end it’s not the years in your life that count.
