Obituary of Dietrich Jacob Kroeger

Dietrich (Dick) Jacob Kroeger was born on the family farm near Hanley, Saskatchewan on March 7, 1937. After a slow decline under the devoted care of his wife, and thanks to the admirable care of the nursing staff at Strathmore Hospital, he passed away peacefully on March 24th. He is survived by his wife Roberta (née McGill), son Robert Kroeger and two sisters Helen Garmen and Mary Loeppky of Saskatoon. He is pre-deceased by his parents John Kroeger and Maria (née Dyck) and siblings Sue Wall, Henry Kroeger and Abe Kroeger.

Dick was a talented student. He completed a B.Sc and B.Ed from the University of Saskatchewan before teaching for a year in Delisle. He then returned to the University of Saskatchewan fo obtain a M.Sc and a M.Ed. He then completed a Ph.D researching Kinetics and Equilibria in Highly Basic Systems at the University of British Columbia.

Dick had a distinguished career as an educator at Algonquin College in Ottawa. He was awarded the Chemical Institute of Canada's "NOVA Chemicals Ltd. Award for Chemistry Teaching" in 1986 and the Algonquin Student Association's "Excellence in Teaching" in 2001.

But his true avocation was in carpentry where he took pride designing and crafting the family home’s custom trim work, cabinetry and furniture and a profusion of other useful wooden pieces.
