Obituary of Doris Anne Lang

It is with sad hearts that we share the passing of Doris Lang at the Strathmore Hospial on April 14, just one month before her 85th birthday.

Doris was born in Humbolt, SK and raised by Antonia and Martin Freyling on their farm northeast of Annaheim, SK which is still in her brother, Leo’s family. She married Conrad Lang on August 1^st, 1956 and together they had four children.  They moved from their home in Humbolt, SK, to Saskatoon, to Regina and then to Calgary, AB, following where Con’s home building and real estate opportunities took them.  In 1973, Doris and Con separated.  On April 1^st, Doris went on the road with Albert Johanson driving truck and were together until Albert’s death on April 1^st, 2022.  During their time together, Doris enjoyed traveling across Canada with Albert and even having an opportunity or two to drive the semi-truck herself.  “Only on the straight roads”, as she put it.  Doris and Albert made their home in Strathmore.  They were members of the Strathmore Royal Canadian Legion. Doris enjoyed going on the Old Car Trips with Albert and their friends taking Albert’s 1959 GMC truck.  In retirement, they were snowbirds, spending their winters at Rolle’s Lynda Vista RV Park in Yuma, AZ making many friends over the years. Doris liked to cook, read, garden, cross stitch, sew and crochet, sometimes making her gifts for family and friends.  She will be missed dearly.

Doris is survived by her sisters Frieda Boehm (special friend Ray Liezert) and Sally Reiter, brothers Ray (Lorraine) Freyling and Jerry Freyling, sister-in-law, Doreen Freyling, her four children, Kathy (David) Stalker, Sandy (Ron) Vanderplas, Wendy (David) Sorge, Ivan (Tammy) Freyling, her ten grandchildren, Michael Duggan (fiance Nina Labadia), Kelvin (Kaitlyn) Stalker, Jessica Stalker, Timothy Vanderplas (special friend Candice Schule), Daniel (Kristina) Vanderplas, Shannon (Patrick) Soderholm, Sean Sorge, Jordan Sorge, Sarah Lang, Kristina (Thoma) Henneveld, and eleven great-grandchildren, Portia Duggan, Ciara Duggan, Gage Vanderplas, Carter Vanderplas, Eleanor Vanderplas, Olivia Vanderplas, Aubrey Stalker, Abigail Stalker, Amelia Stalker, Lucian Holstein, Maya Henneveld, Isaak Henneveld, step-daughter Sonia Bendig (special friend, Gary) step-grandchildren, Stacey (Kurt) Hailey; Shona (Ian), Paige, Declas, Easton; Shira (Joel) and Shelby (Mason), step-son Jeff (Denise) Johanson, step-grandchildren, Michael and Jory. Doris was predeceased by her life companion of 49 years, Albert Johanson, her parents, Antonia and Martin Freyling, brothers Ed (Lil) Freyling, Leo (Joan) Freyling, and Joe Freyling, brother-in-law Alvin Reiter, sister-in-law, Pat Freyling and two grandchildren, Tara and Ryan Perkins.

The family will be having a private celebration of life for Doris but invite you to raise a glass and give a toast to Doris at your next opportunity.

A special thanks to the caregivers at Foothills Hospital, Carewest Sarcee, Banff Hospital, Strathmore Hospital and Bayshore Home Health who cared for Doris over this past year. 

Life is precious and each day matters. Life isn't lived in weeks, months, and years, but in moments and each of those moments contains choices that define us. Some moments will be full and others empty, some happy and others sad, and that's OK.
