Obituary of Allan LYONS

LYONS, Allan It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving and caring dad, grandpa, poppy and great grandpa. Surrounded by his family, Allan Lyons, born October 25, 1929 in Drumheller, Alberta to Kathleen and Frederick, passed away after a long struggle with heart problems and cancer on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the age of 84 years. He is survived by his daughters Colleen, Bonnie, Cheryl and Eileen; and sons Larry and David. He is also survived by Mary Ellen; his sisters Dot, Melley, and Muriel; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. After an adventurous teenage life and working at various jobs such as farming, mining and construction, Dad joined the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in January 1949 at the age of 20 and was later deployed to South Korea (1951) serving as a weapons technician and welder with the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery and Fort Garry Horse until his safe return in October 1952. He continued his military career until the fall of 1972 where he returned to Calgary. Dad was very talented with his hands building a camper for his outdoor adventures in the Alberta Foothills until early 2000. He especially enjoyed time at the North Ghost forestry where he spent many weekends with family and friends and his dog Trixie. Dad was also an avid curler and Calgary Flames fan. Allan was predeceased by his parents (Fred and Kathleen), and brothers Howard and Norman. A special vigil will be held for him on Saturday, October 25, 2014 to celebrate his life.
