Obituary of Leslie Andrew David
With great sadness we announce the passing of Leslie (Les) Andrew David.
With his family by his side, Les passed away on October 8, 2023 in Strathmore, Alberta. Les was born on August 8, 1937 in Brooks, AB. The second eldest son of Wilbur and Mary David, Les grew up with 5 brothers, Pete, Roy, Fred (Butch), Ron and Larry, and one sister, Lorraine.
Les was a provider and family man who worked very hard his whole life to ensure his family was taken care of. His son Raymond inherited his work ethic and his sense of family, and his daughter Melissa his passion for animals. His children and grandchildren’s success was also a sense of pride for him. He happily spoke about his family at every opportunity.
His love for animals, rodeo, chuckwagon racing and farming were what kept him occupied and even in his last days he happily provided foster care to pets whose guardians were experiencing hardship. There was always room for one more stray or mouth to feed. Some of his favorite adventures were with his brother Larry when they went on road trips to pick up horses, and watching great nephews Jordie and Chad Fike race chuckwagons.
Besides being a farmer, Les worked many years at Domtar and later the Calgary Stockyards in Strathmore and accumulated many friends along the way. Les was a former outrider, driver and judge for the World Professional Chuckwagon Association. The Half Mile of Hell held his heart.
Leaving to mourn are his wife of 43 years Linda, Raymond (Terri), Melissa (Mike), Tyler, Brooke, Samantha, Christie, Marne (Tim) and Tara (Steve), Dawn, Emilee, Aimee and Chaz. Brothers Ron David (Barb), and Larry David (Dianne), sister-in-law Pearl as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His dog Chico is still patiently awaiting his return in his chair. Horse Kidd will miss his daily carrots.
Les is predeceased by parents Wilbur and Mary David, brothers Pete David, Butch David and Roy David and sister Lorraine Ferrar as well as many beloved pets.
A memorial service will be held at David’s Arena (Highway 1 east of Calgary and turn north on range road 261) on November 18, 2023 at 2 pm. .
The family would like to thank Dr. Sader for his care of Les over the last decade and the staff at the Strathmore Hospital for their care and compassion. His caregivers Desiree and Latisha have become part of the family and we are immensely grateful for their support.
