Obituary of Ivy Marion Bogstie
Ivy M Bogstie (Watts), age 106, passed away on Sunday, Nov 19, 2023, surrounded by family. It is with sadness that we had to say goodbye to Mom but with grateful hearts for 106 years. Mom was born in Namaka and moved to Gleichen where she lived in her own home until she was 100. Her last few years at the Sagewood Age Care in Strathmore were ironically on the Namaka Unit.
Mom had many siblings. Her brother Ruben (Dorothy) Watts is her only living sibling. On Dad’s side, she has one sister-in-law Dorothy Yule. She married Dad, Gordon Bogstie and they had 3 children, Dian, Dale, and Richard. Our Dad passed away in 1976 of ALS and our brother Dale in 2019.
Mom leaves behind her two loving children, Richard (Robin) Bogstie and Dian (Robert) Sproule. As well as 5 Grandchildren Trevor (Sharon) Sproule, Michelle (Dan) Krbavac, Jennifer Bogstie, Kaylee Bogstie, and special granddaughter and best friend Alison Bogstie. 4 Great Grandchildren Zachaery and Caleb Sproule and Lance and Laurel Krbavac. Mom was fortunate that Richard lived only a few blocks away from her in Gleichen and was always there for and took wonderful care of Mom until the end. We are grateful to Vicky Brown who loved and cared for Mom and was like family to her.
Mom will be remembered for her involvement in community projects. She spent many years as a Cub Scout Leader and, was involved in building the Gleichen Park, which is named after her. Her last big project with the help of Richard was saving the Gleichen Water Tower, which is now a historical site.
Some cherished memoriires of our Mom are that she didn’t throw anything away. She always said, “Someone will be needing that!” If you needed anything and let Mom know she would hunt it down for you. As well Mom loved gardening,; her yard was beautiful with many flowers. At 99 she was still weeding her garden and flower beds.
Mom was unbelievably independent for as long as she could possibly be and was feisty to the end.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made directly to War Amps and/or Wheatland Hospice.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Gleichen Community Hall from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
