Obituary of Beryl Page
Beryl Page passed away peacefully on November 24, 2023. We have a great sense of loss but so much gratitude to have shared in such a long and amazing life with her.
Beryl is survived by her three children; son Michael (Sue), daughter Mary, son Robin (Theresa); four grandchildren; Kelly, Amanda, Brittany and Ben and great grandchild Ethan. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Bruce.
Mom was born in Leicestershire, England on August 19, 1925 to Lillian and John Wood. Mom was 14 when the war broke out, so at a young age learned what it was like “to do without” and to work hard to overcome challenging circumstances.
Beryl had an adventurous spirit. She travelled to Australia in her late twenties to work at the YMCA in Brisbane. One year after her return to England Mom and her mother arrived in Canada. It was on her first night here she met the love of her life, Bruce. A year later she was married and soon after that was raising three children on the Page farm.
One of Beryl’s favourite pastimes was curling and playing in bonspiels with “the gals”. Her and Bruce enjoyed camping trips to the Rocky Mountains and also made many house sitting trips to Salt Spring Island.
Mom was a great seamstress, she loved sewing and knitting. She was also a talented baker and we can’t remember a time when there wasn’t fresh apple pie and buns waiting in the kitchen for family and friends to enjoy. After retirement, playing Bridge became a passion with happy afternoons spent vying for quarters with friends.
Family was everything to Mom. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and extended family.
Mom was always doing things for others. She will be remembered for her selflessness, caring disposition; and also for her exuberance for life that shone through right to the very end.
Thank you very much to the staff at Sagewood for all the love, support, and care you showed to Mom in her last days. The comfort and respect you gave her made all the difference in her time at the facility.
A celebration of mom’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 22 2023 at the Lutheran Church in Strathmore. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
