Obituary of Herman Peter Valckx

The family of Herman Valckx is saddened to announce the passing of their oldest brother, Herman.  Herman was born in Calgary, the oldest of 11 children to Gerry and Mary Valckx.  Herman learned the value of hard work at an early age helping at home on the family farm.

Herman was born on October 4, 1954, and passed away on December 13, 2023. Herman was predeceased by his mother and father, Gerry and Mary Valckx, brother Peter and his nephew Jason Hendricks. Herman is survived by his siblings, Nettie (Mike), Ellen (Ali), Lou (Donna), Marian (Mike), Tony (Barbara), Martin, Suzanne (Mike), Paul (Christy), and Jeanette (Geoff) as well as 21 nieces & nephews and 16 great nieces and nephews.  Herman’s contagious belly laugh will be missed by all.

After High School, Herman worked in the oil field and later transitioned to drywaller.  He continued to work in the construction industry until his retirement several years ago.  Herman’s happiest times were spent fishing which he learned from his dad at a very early age.  This past summer still saw him pulling his boat and going fishing whenever he could. Herman enjoyed many fishing trips with his brothers as they shared stories, and their laughter was heard over the water for all to hear. There was never a shortage of laughter and storytelling when Heman was in the picture.  He loved to hear what his nieces and nephews were doing and never missed sending them a birthday wish.  In his later years Herman picked up the love of cooking. Herman didn’t believe in wasting anything and was never a person to live lavishly. Herman moved into Victory Outreach two years ago where he made some very special connections, and he considered them to be his family and thought the world of them.  Little brother Martin picked Herman up many times a week and brought him along on his electrical jobs to keep him company and give Herman an outing at the same time.  One joke rode into the next and the two were a great team.  Herman enjoyed walks in the park with his nephew Austin whenever the weather was great.  He loved family get togethers and sharing life stories and keeping up with world events.

Although we are many, your presence will be missed, and we will remember to be setting a place for you at each family celebration – keeping in mind that it will have some kind of fish for you.

Until we meet again, dear brother. Rest in Peace.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Herman's memory may be made directly to Sacred Heart Building Fund or Victory Outreach.

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Wheatland Funeral Chapel at 10:30 a.m.
