Obituary of David Lawrence Heinzlmeir

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Heinzlmeir, of Rockyford, Alberta on Wednesday December 13, 2023, at the age of 86 years.

David will be lovingly remembered by his wife Mary; children Mary Bailey, June (Doug) Symyrozum and Timothy, and grandchildren Aaron, Emily, and Adam; brother Harold and many relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Dorothy, brother Melvin, sisters Elvira and Donna Mae, and granddaughter Marisa.

David was born, at home, on the farm near Baintree, Alberta where he lived and farmed for most of his life. He attended Baintree School in the early years and later he went to school at St. Rita’s in Rockyford. David completed his post secondary education at SAIT with a diploma in Electronics Technology and worked in Calgary for a few years. He had a mind for engineering and loved to work with his hands. He could design/build anything and he was exceptional at woodworking.

David met his lifelong best friend and future wife, Mary, at a friend’s wedding and their love blossomed from there. Shortly after they were married, he “suggested” going to the farm “just for the summer to help out”, a summer that lasted over 61 years. His greatest pride and passions were his family and the farm. He also loved flying and enjoyed soaring over the fields on a calm, sunny day. David was a loving, kind, quiet and caring person. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

The family thanks the staff of Newport Harbour Care Center in Calgary for their care and support over the past few years.

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the Alzheimers Society of Calgary.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, Rockyford, Alberta at 11:00 a.m.
