Allan Tanton

Obituary of Allan Russell Tanton

We sadly announce the sudden passing of Allan Russell Tanton (age 73) of Strathmore, Alberta on December 16, 2023, in Calgary. Allan was born in 1950 in Canora, Saskatchewan.

Allan is survived by his wife of 50 years, Birgit; his sons Dervin (Danielle) and Calvin (Bridget); beloved grandchildren Taryn, Zach (Tori), Thea, Ty, Tinley, and Ethan; siblings Harvey, Laurel (Zane), and Marlene; numerous nieces and nephews; He was the “uncle of all uncles“ as Brandi put it; as well as his special “sister” Karin, daughter-in-law Michelle, sister-in-law Laurie and so many dear friends from both here and back home in Saskatchewan.

He was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Verna Tanton; his siblings Bonnie, Karen, Kenny, Donnie, and Lloyd; and his Uncle Merle, who helped raise him after his dad’s death.

“Big Al” was a large man that had an even larger personality. The very definition of a giant teddy bear. Gruff and intimidating on the outside but had the biggest heart on the inside. He was a hard worker all his life. He especially loved working for his final employer BRT Construction before illness forced him to retire. He loved his fishing trips with Harvey and card games with Lloyd and Karin. He liked working alongside Kenny as they got themselves established in the precast business. He didn’t miss many of the boy’s ball games years ago. Allan loved his day trips to Sundre to see the wild horses, to longer trips home to Saskatchewan to see many people he held dear. He loved telling stories of his childhood antics with Ronnie Chase. He loved to laugh.

We would like to thank Jason, Angel, and Nolan with all they did to help. We will always be grateful.

Please know how much you all meant to “Big Al”.

As per Allan’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
