Woody Stoneman

Obituary of Woody Stoneman

Elwood H.R. Stoneman (Woody), was born in Preeceville, Saskatchewan on January 28, 1945 and Woody passed away gently and peacefully, on January 30, 2024 at his home in Calgary, with his beloved sweetheart by his side.

Woody is survived by Gerry, his best friend and wife of 52 years, his daughter Julie (Brad) of Drumheller, Alberta and a large extended family.  Woody was blessed with many kind, caring and faithful friends during his 12-year battle with cancer. He is predeceased by his parents, Richard and Evelyn Stoneman.

He was a heavy equipment operator with Standard General Construction for 35+ years and was recently recognized for his 50 years of service to the International Union of Operating Engineers.

As a snowbird, to Yuma, Arizona for 20 years, the desert captured Woody’s soul.

Woody never hesitated to step in and volunteer, whether it was laying sod, driving the Handi-Bus, or peeling potatoes.  Woody loved many things, especially his big black truck, his hand-crafted clocks, and his plot of garlic.

“Lead me from the unreal to the real

Lead me from darkness to the light,

Lead me from death to immortality.”

An open house in memory of Woody, will be held on Saturday February 10, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Strathmore Legion Branch #10.
