I did not have the honour of knowing Josip, but knowing Dr Clarke I wanted to express my deepest condolences to Dr Clarke and family at this very unexpected time.

Dear Alison, Nikolas and Luka,
Our hearts are broken for you after seeing this terrible news. I remember well the early years in Strathmore and the birth of the boys. We loved seeing you again at our place in 2018 when Luka and Ainslie were ready to start at StFX. Josip was a wonderful man who loved his family , and was so proud of all of you. We will be thinking of you and keeping you close to our hearts.

We would also like to send sincere condolences to Alison and family. We are shocked and saddened to receive news of this tragedy. Josip & Panda were among the first we met in the village. It was always a pleasure to see Josip in the Back 40. We enjoyed our chats, and were pleased Fly filled the space at his side and in his heart. He was always so active and obviously loved being outdoors. His obituary was beautifully written and we learned even more about him. I know we will miss his presence in Waiparous and can’t even begin to imagine the hole in your lives. Our thoughts are with you during this sad and difficult time.

Joe was always welcome as a registered player or call up on any Lads team I played on. All of his teammates would welcome the quiet, efficient way he played and spoke about the game. Joe always had a happy demeanour and was quite funny whilst maintaining a soft spoken style of communication. He led by example and let his feet do the talking. A quality footballer and all round nice guy

We have so many fond memories of Josip from our trip to France as well as the years standing on the side of the pitch as our sons played together. We consider ourselves blessed for having known him and, although we hadn’t seen him in years, we still laugh as we remember some of the things he said to get a rise out of those who took themselves too seriously.

Dam it Josip. You made me laugh every game we played with each other and over the last 12 years we played a lot. My favourite memory is one of my favourite stories to tell because it’s so Josip. Free kick was whistled during our game (we are playing on the West field in the Soccer Center) Youseff and Josip both step up to take this free kick. So they are both standing there, in thier glory waiting anxiously to take the kick. Referee blows his whistle and at this point you have 5 seconds in which to kick the ball. Youseff and Josip ready to kick. Youseff says to Jo “Kick it”. Referee counting down “4-3-2” Youseff says to Jo “Kick it” “Josip take it” Referee “1….whistle blows” “Yellow card to Youseff for delay of game and we loose possession of the ball. Youseff has to sit for 2 minutes in the penalty box. Josip is deaf in one ear so Youseff was yelling at him in the ear he couldn’t hear out of and we are all on the bench cheering and laughing because when you get a yellow card on our team you owe 12 beers!! Ever since this day, I always made sure to yell at him in his good ear. Love you bro and gonna our laughs. Sleep well. Ian
