Obituary of Darren Edwin Holt
Darren Edwin Holt passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Monday, February 19, 2024. He succumbed to an unexpected illness, pancreatitis and diabetic ketoacidosis. Darren was 54 years old. Darren was born in Calgary, Alberta and is the oldest child of Edwin Frank Holt and LeAnne Elizabeth Oviatt. Darren lived in Alberta for most of his life residing in Claresholm, Fort Vermillion and at the family farm in Rocky View County and Strathmore. Darren served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Idaho, U.S.A. He graduated from Chestermere High School and earned an Associates Degree from Rick’s College, now BYU-Idaho. There he met his wife, Dorene.
Darren is survived by his wife, Dorene Seeley Holt, his daughter, Rebecca LeAnne Holt, his parents, Edwin and LeAnne Holt and his siblings, Kimberyle Anne Lund, David Ellis Holt and Bradley Hugh Holt.
Darren was a talented artist and welder. He was CWB certified and received his Alberta Red Seal and B- pressure tickets. He designed and carefully crafted metal art, railings, gates, picture frames, furniture, sculptures and fabricated for construction projects. He won an award at the Calgary Stampede for a pheasant sculpture and was the main fabricator on the giant spider at Lagoon in Farmington, Utah, U.S.A. Darren was a kind and caring person who believed in helping people around him. He was a great listener and a helping friend to many. Darren grew up near Strathmore and loved the outdoors. He loved horses and especially dogs. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping and had many camping adventures with the boy scouts and with his family. Darren loved to tease and play jokes on people. He made you laugh and smile. Darren will be missed dearly by those who were recipients of his kind and loving nature.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (60 Maplewood Drive, Strathmore) A viewing will held at 2:00 p.m. at the church.
