Benjamin Goertz

Obituary of Benjamin Isaac Goertz

Benjamin Isaac Goertz, age 27, died at his home in Strathmore, AB, around March 10, 2024.

Ben was born December 18, 1996, in Calgary, AB, to Rob and Meredith Goertz. Since graduating high school in 2015, Ben worked various jobs in Strathmore and Calgary. Family and friends will remember Ben for his honesty, loyalty, often-inappropriate sense of humour, and tenderness. He took great pride in having thousands of views on his YouTube or Snapchat videos, made probably hundreds of memes that he would share with family and friends, and was never afraid of saying something startlingly off-colour if he thought it would get a laugh. He loved Eminem, extra large Slurpies, and ordering the most expensive item at a restaurant (if someone else was paying). Ben was a staunch mama’s boy and would never leave home without a round of hugs goodbye and saying “I love you” to each person.

Ben was a beloved grandchild, son, brother, cousin, nephew, and friend. He is survived by his parents, Rob and Meredith Goertz, and siblings, Max Goertz, Katie (Denver) Barg, and Corin Goertz. A loyal group of friends from junior high stayed close to him through thick and thin. He had too many aunts, uncles, and cousins to name here, but he loved and was loved by many others.

.

The celebration of life will take place at Hope Community Covenant Church on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with lunch to follow.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gregory Montgomery and nurse Anna Gresko from the Early Psychosis Intervention Program at Foothills Medical Centre for the love and care they showed Ben and his family. In lieu of flowers, his family would encourage donations to the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta, https://www.schizophrenia.ab.ca/.
