Obituary of Margaret UNRUH
UNRUH, Margaret (nee Firth/Marietta)
April 11, 1924 – August 14, 2014
Surrounded by her loving family, Margaret passed away peacefully at the Strathmore Hospital and was welcomed into the arms of Her Lord and Saviour. Margaret was born in Yorkshire, England and came to Canada as a War Bride in 1945, arriving in Manyberries, Alberta. She then lived in Belleville, Ontario, and then in several towns around the Lethbridge area, including Lethbridge itself. She also lived in Cabri, Saskatchewan, and then later in Calgary, Alberta. Margaret was predeceased by her first husband, Orville Marietta; son Beverley Marietta; daughter Avis Marietta; grandson Paul Marietta; and great-grandson James Cooper Townend. In 1995 Margaret married Ervin Unruh and moved to Strathmore, Alberta. She will be sadly missed by her husband Ervin; her children Suzanne (Paul) Leak, (Jean) Marietta, Theodore (Helen) Marietta, David (Trudy) Unruh, Allan (Chris) Unruh, Shelly (Patrick) Bernhardt, and Doug (Sherry) Unruh; her 22 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; as well as many others who also considered her their grandma. Margaret always put others before herself and will be remembered for her loving kindness and caring compassion to those she came in contact with. Her warm and welcoming smile, lively spirit and infectious laugh drew all ages to her, and her kitchen was always open for a cuppa tea, banana bread and rice-crispy squares. She served faithfully at the Bethany Care Centre for many years and was very active with the War Brides Association. Margaret was also an active member of the Strathmore Alliance Church and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. The family thanks the staff at the Strathmore Hospital for all of their love and care for Margaret during her time there. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, August 22, 2014 at Strathmore Alliance Church at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made directly to TEAM of Canada for the missionaries Jerry and Elizabeth Dirks who are serving in Spain (372-16 Midpark Blvd. S.E., Calgary, AB, T2X 2X7, or 403-248-2344, or www.team.org).
