Obituary of Allan Ross Heer
Allan Ross Heer passed away March 30, 2024 at the Strathmore Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on March 19, 1948 in Trochu, Alberta to parents Edwin and Louise Heer. He and his brother Gary were raised on a farm just west of Huxley. He attended school in Huxley and graduated from TroVal High School. In Al's teenage years he was active in highschool basketball and then his greatest love was playing baseball. He pitched many games playing both in Trochu and in the Sedgwick area. At the age of 21 Al started an apprenticeship with A.G.T which turned into a 34 year career with Telus.
On January 27 1979 Al married Jolene Schramm, his loving wife of 45 years. Together they raised their two children Jaclyn and Jonathan. Al was a dedicated father to his children, he was always very involved with Jonathan’s baseball and hockey. He enjoyed curling in the winter, but when spring arrived he couldn’t wait to get on the golf course. On one of the first Mothers Day’s he bought Jolene golf clubs so she could join him. That led to many friendships and golf trips over the years. It was a happy day when Jonathan was able to beat him. Al also loved to camp and as a family they spent many weekends enjoying the outdoors.
After retiring, Al and Jolene spent several years travelling to Arizona. So many friendships were formed on the golf course or at happy hours. He loved his men’s groups and toonie golf.
The best years of Al’s life were when he became a Poppa to his four grandchildren. They brought him so much joy right to his last days. He loved them all so much.
Al was predeceased by his mother Louise in 1983, his father Eddie in 2002, his brother Gary in 2020, father in-law Eugene Schramm in 1990, and brother in-law Reg Nelson in 2010.
