Obituary of Ernest Allan PROSSER

PROSSER, Ernest Allan “ONE MORE COWBOY RIDES AWAY” “Ernie” was born December 19, 1931 in Peoria, AB. and passed away August 6, 2017 in Strathmore, AB at 85 years of age (That’s 105 in cowboy years) Predeceased by his parents Dorse and Carrie Prosser, and survived by his daughter Pam (Kevin) Gerritsen, Sisters Gladys Currie(Pelkey), Trella (Karl) Ebner, two nephews, four nieces, several great nieces and nephews and numerous very special close friends. Ernie spent his entire life involved with horses in one way or another, rounding up wild horses, haying with heavy horses, and riding broncs in the 1940’s and 50’s. He worked as a seismic driller for Western Geophysical in the late 50’s and early 60’s which took him to places like Libya Africa and Spain. When he settled west of Calgary in the early 70’s, he worked as a road grader operator for the Rockyview County while progressively growing his herd of horses. He spent the better part of 30 years doing hayrides and parades for the Calgary Stampede Caravan breakfasts. Finding his way into the movies as a driver of stagecoach, in productions like Lonesome Dove and Ebenezer. One of his favorite productions was the opening ceremony of the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, where he was able to show his western heritage pride of Alberta to the world when he raced a chuck wagon through the stadium as part of the grand entrance. After 35 years of living in Springbank, he moved East of Calgary to Mossleigh with his daughter and son in-law in 2004 where he continued raising the beautiful black and white Spotted Draft horses until he moved to Sagewood Senior Care in 2014. He spent his remaining years making wonderful friends of the staff and residents at Sagewood, regaling them with his tales of adventures and cowboy life. Ernie lived life his way, on his time line and never complained of hardships or pains. His last days were filled with one more parade and more stories of his adventurous amazing life. His motto in life was “The day is what you make of it! So make the best of it and enjoy life!” A celebration of Ernie’s life, and luncheon will take place on Saturday August 26, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Mossleigh Community Hall on 1 Ave. in Mossleigh AB.
