Obituary of Betty Faye JOHNSON
JOHNSON, Betty
May 5, 1945 – June 9, 2014
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, and friend on June 9, 2014. Betty lived for her children and her grandchildren. She was so proud of everything that they have accomplished, no matter how small. Betty was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, to Les and Jessie Nolan on May 5, 1945. She was the third in a family of five girls. She met the love of her life, Bob Johnson, in 1965 and they were married in 1966. After starting out as a family in Calgary, Alberta, Betty and Bob moved into Carseland, Alberta, in December of 1980; a home that she had resided in until her passing. She was a true community person, holding various volunteer positions throughout the years including, but not limited to, the Carseland School, the Carseland Curling Rink, the Carseland Community Association, and Minor Ball. She held a job at the Carseland Post Office for over fifteen years, where she enjoyed visiting with all of the people who came to get their mail. When the kids were growing up she considered so many of the other young people of Carseland to be her “kids” too, and would love them like her own. She would also scold them like her own too! When Bob passed away in November of 2001, a piece of Betty passed away too. She often mentioned maybe selling her house and moving somewhere smaller, however she couldn’t seem to cut that final cord. She recently mentioned that she really didn’t want to move because she really loved her house. We aren’t sure if it was the house so much as the memories that came with it that she loved. Betty leaves behind her children Lisa (Douglas) Thiessen, Lona Johnson (Douglas Butler), and Robbie (Noralea) Johnson; six grandchildren, Dustin, Reanna, Jennifer, and Chelsea Thiessen, and Avery and Chase Johnson; four sisters and their families; and Bob’s three siblings and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, Les and Jessie Nolan; Bob’s parents Mel and Vivian Johnson; grandson Derek Thiessen; nephew Bill O’gryzlo; and her sister-in-law Fran Johnson. She was also predeceased by the love of her life, Bob. They are together again after 12.5 years. A memorial service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held on Monday, June 16, 2014 at Carseland Community Hall at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation (2888 Shaganappi Trail, N.W., Calgary, T3B 6A8).
