Obituary of Peter Bernard GEERAERT

GEERAERT, Peter Peter was born on July 10, 1927 and passed away peacefully on May 18, 2014 at the Rockyview Hospital with his loving family surrounding him. He is survived by Marie, his wife of 61 years, and by his seven children Gerald (Dorothy), John (Arlene), Dale (Lorrie), Rosalie, Edmund (Kathy), Doug (Cheryl), and Frances Krawiec (Ken). He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, two sisters Betty O’Farrell (Pat) and Agnes Luttmer, and one brother-in-law Fr. Stan Henke. Peter farmed in Rockyford, Alberta and continued his love of farming after his retirement as a crop insurance adjuster and by helping his sons with the annual harvest in the following years. Peter cultivated many friendships where ever he was including his moves from Rockyford to Calgary and later from Calgary to Cochrane. He welcomed new friends with open arms and he enjoyed his family and friends immensely. Up to the time of his death Peter enjoyed his hobby of woodworking and particularly building deacon’s benches, many of which he built for the charity auctions he supported. He volunteered countless hours to charitable work particularly through the Rockyford Lions Club and Knights of Columbus. A prayer service will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Cochrane (turn east onto James Walker Trail from Hwy 22) at 7:30 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, Rockyford at 11:00 am. with lunch to follow in the adjacent community hall.
