Obituary of Margaret Davidson GRASSICK
GRASSICK, Margaret Davidson
April 6, 1926 Edinburgh, Scotland – October 30, 2013, Strathmore, AB Canada
Margaret, 87, passed away peacefully on October 30 at her family’s home. Margaret was born and raised in Edinburgh. Losing her father, Philip, at age 2, and her mother, Margaret, at age 14, she was raised among her large extended family. At age 27, Margaret came to Canada ultimately settling in Toronto. There she developed many lifelong friendships and enjoyed a fulfilling life as a legal secretary at the Borough of East York. Margaret’s greatest accomplishment in life was raising her only child Sandra. It was difficult for Margaret to see Sandra off to the University of Waterloo and then to Calgary after she graduated. Fortunately, upon retirement, Margaret rejoined her daughter and her ever growing family in Calgary and spent the remainder of her life close to them. Margaret was an accomplished piano player and dancer and “clogged” with many good friends until her late 70’s. At this time, the onset of Rheumatoid Arthritis and Alzheimer’s began to rob Margaret of her health and independence. Her family is grateful she retreated into their care where she spent the rest of her lengthy life. Margaret is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Paul O’Leary; their 10 children Lisa, Leslie, Shauna, Kristen, Michael, Daniel, Christopher, Michaela, Stephen and Rachelle; and 3 great grandchildren Tyler, Kylie, and Victoria. Margaret’s family is so thankful for friends and especially grateful for the caregivers who were so kind, gentle and understanding while ministering to Margaret in her difficult last years. We have all been blessed in sharing our lives with Margaret and now hope she will “clog” her way to heaven and join those friends who have gone before her. A viewing with family prayers will take place on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013 at Wheatland Funeral Chapel (Strathmore) at 3:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will take place on Monday Nov. 4, 2013 at Strathmore Alliance Church at 11:00 a.m., final interment to follow at Strathmore Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made directly to Chalice Canada (445 Sackville Drive, Suite 1, Lower Sackville, NS, B4C 2S1), a sponsorship program.
