Obituary of Stanley Neil CHRISTIE
CHRISTIE, Stanley Neil
1927 – 2013
God saw Dad getting tired and a cure was not to be,
so He put His arms around him and whispered “Come To Me”.
Dad passed away quietly and peacefully the morning of May 19th, 2013.
In his own soft words, he told us, “That’s Enough”.
He is deeply missed by his wife of 60 years, Mary (Van Bavel), his son Wayne and his daughters Valerie, Rhonda (Nelson), Marlene (Ernie) and Darlene (Greg). He was a very proud Grandpa to Stephanie (Jeremy), Erin, Kristin (Kevin), Tanner (Kimberley), Bailey (Dan),Tyson, Devon, Taylor (Chelsea), Taralyn and Lyndsay and Great Grandpa to Coby, Isaiah, Ava, Joey, Brooklyn, Foster and Cohen. Dad was born the youngest of 13 children to David and Mary and was raised in the Rocky Mountain House area. His love of farming called him to leave the logging industry in BC and brought him to the Strathmore area in the early 50’s. It was while driving school bus that Dad first met the love of his life, reuniting with Mary a few years later at a Saturday night hop at the Strathmore Legion Hall. Dad and Mom were wed April 18, 1953, the first couple to be married in the newly built Sacred Heart Parish in Strathmore. In addition to working as the curling and hockey ice rink manager, Dad was employed with the County road building crew and gained a wealth of farming experience working for the Hanson’s and Desmet’s prior to farming with his brother-in-law Jim Van Bavel east of Strathmore. While raising his family Dad kept busy with the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Church and was a founding member of the Strathmore and District Agricultural Society. He took to the ice curling and coaching hockey and also assisted with the Crowfoot 4-H Beef Club. Upon leaving farming, Dad and Mom moved to Strathmore where Dad was employed with Alberta Hail & Crop, later reversing his role and becoming a voice for the farmer with his companies C&D Consultants and Triple C Consultants. Dad enjoyed his last years residing with Mom at the Wheatland Lodge and Sagewood Seniors, forming a loving bond with all of his friends who cared for him. Dad touched everyone he met with his kindness, compassion for others, ability to listen to all ages and eagerness to lend a helping hand. We hold close to our hearts many precious memories of our beloved Husband, Dad and Grandpa and his passions: family, friends, horseback riding, sports and a good game of crib.
“Whatever you do, do your best,
the years ahead will take care of the rest.”
A Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Wheatland Funeral Chapel, Strathmore at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Hope Community Covenant Church (245 Brent Blvd., Strathmore) at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to STARS (Box 570, 1441 Aviation Park NE, Calgary, T2E 8M7)
