Obituary of Martha LUDWIG

LUDWIG, Martha (nee Ziegler) November 27, 1915 – March 7, 2013 Martha passed away peacefully at the age of 97 years at Brentwood Care Centre in Calgary, Alberta. She will always be remembered in the hearts of her children, Betty (Tom) Girling, Diana Ludwig, Elaine Leavitt and Arne (Marge) Ludwig; five grandchildren, Rhonda, Susie, Julie, Michael, and Christopher; eight great-grandchildren, Taylor, Alexandria, Rheana, Owen, Leah, Avery, Tyson, Cody; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Martha was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Julius Ludwig on June 11, 1993 and a daughter, Geri Barr on September 17, 2012. Martha was born on November 27, 1915 in Long Lake, South Dakota, the eighth child of Jacob and Mary Ziegler. Her nuclear family consisted of nineteen children, her brother Carl Ziegler is the last remaining sibling. At the young age of three, Martha moved with her family to Hesketh, Alberta on a farm. In December of 1939, Martha and Julius were married and farmed together in the Nightingale district where she remained until 2008 when she moved to Calgary in an assisted living facility and then finally to the Brentwood Care Centre. Martha was a long time member of Zion Baptist Church near Drumheller. Special thanks to Dr. Beairsto, and all the staff at Brentwood Care Centre for the exceptional care they provided to Mom. A very special thank you to Mary Pietsch for being Mom’s faithful companion for the last three years in Brentwood.
