Obituary of James Grant FRASER

FRASER, James (Jim) Grant With heavy hearts we must share the news of the passing of James (Jim) Grant Fraser on January 22, 2013. Jim was born December 17, 1924 at the family farm in Markerville, Alberta and lived most of his adult years in and about Rockyford, Alberta. Raised on the farm west of Markerville, Jim came to have an eternal bond with agriculture and the farming way of life. His adult years saw him embrace a career in his own trucking business and as petroleum agent for UFA serving the Rockyford area. Through his work Jim never lost his bond with the farm and became a consummate expert on all aspects of the farming community for miles around. Aside from his daily coffee at the Rockyford Hotel, his favorite pastime long after retirement was to drive wherever the road would take him as he surveyed both the village and the surrounding landscape. Within the confines of the village his membership in the Rockyford Lions club since 1954 brought him a great deal of pride and satisfaction from the club’s service to the community. His love of Rockyford and interest in its future success were one of his last expressions before his passing. Jim was pre deceased by his Mother Isabella, Father James, Brother Alexander, Sisters Jean and Margaret along with an extensive list of friends in the community. Left behind to remember and reminisce are his loving wife of 54 years Jeanette, sons; Grant (Eve), Blair (Laurie), Dale (Leah) and Les along with many nieces and nephews. Jim’s Legacy will carry on through his Granddaughter Crystal (Nick) Sereda and their two children Nate and Fraser along with his second Granddaughter Kathryn (Kevin) Hunter and their two children Kamryn and Kooper. Nothing lifted Jim’s spirit up even till the very end more than a visit with his great grandchildren. Our family would like to invite the community, friends and neighbours to a send-off for Jim and a celebration of his life on Wednesday January 30, 2013 at the Rockyford Community Centre, 412 Serviceberry Trail Rockyford, Alberta at 11:00 AM with interment to follow at the Rockyford Union Cemetery on the hill North of the village. A light lunch will follow, also at the Rockyford Community Centre. Although appreciated, in lieu of flowers we ask that you consider a donation to the Rockyford Lions Club, Rockyford Alberta or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Dr. Kelly Young for his years of care and Dr. Benjamin Sader and the staff at the Strathmore Hospital for their expert and compassionate care in the end. Jim’s comfort was of paramount importance to our family and the nursing staff went above and beyond to help him pass on in peace. To send condolences, please visit www.wheatlandfuneralhome.ca.
