Obituary of Gladys POTTER
POTTER, Gladys (nee Poole)
September 28, 1928 – May 21, 2012
It is with heavy but happy hearts that we announce the passing of Gladys Potter at 83 years of age. She has gone to join her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and be reunited with her loving husband Cedric, her dad and mom Humphrey and Mary Poole, her older sister Mary Poole, and her niece Heidi Hess. Gladys was raised in Montreal, Quebec and attended Ebenezer Gospel Chapel (Rosemount Bible Church). In 1989 Gladys and Cedric moved to Strathmore, Alberta where she resided for 18 years (Cedric passed away in 1998). Five years ago she moved to Didsbury to be closer to her daughter and family. Gladys passed away at Bethany Care Centre in Airdrie where she had resided for the past 1 ½ years. She will always be lovingly cherished by her daughter Cherie (Cheryl) Plamping and husband Doug; as well as by her grandchildren, Garth Plamping and his wife Cara, and Heidi Plamping, along with her great grandchildren Hezekiah and Amos Plamping. She is also survived by her daughter Starr (John) Harrison and grandson David Harrison. In addition, her sister Ruth (George) Wicks will lovingly remember her. Gladys was always active with Cedric in church work as a Sunday school teacher, Pioneer Girls leader, and AWANA leader. Gladys and Cedric were known to have the gift of hospitality and most Sundays would find people sharing Sunday dinner with the family. Before Gladys’ hands were crippled with osteoarthritis, she loved making all kinds of crafts and doing them well including afghans, pottery, wonderful birthday cakes, painted flowers on glasses, and millinery. Gladys’ other hobby was reading; she was a voracious reader and read virtually all the Christian novels that Zion Evangelical Missionary Church in Didsbury had to offer. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, May 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Strathmore Alliance Church (325 – 1 Avenue, Strathmore, AB.) Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, it would be appreciated that donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse, 20 Hopewell Way N.E., Calgary, AB T3J 5H5 (samaritanspurse.ca).
