Obituary of Vernon Bernard JOHNSON

JOHNSON, Vernon Bernard “Barney” April 9, 1932 – April 13, 2012 It is with great sadness that we share the loss of our husband, father, grandfather & great-grandfather Vernon “Barney” Johnson who peacefully passed away on April 13, 2012. Barney is pre-deceased by his father & mother, one brother and two sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 wonderful years Muriel Johnson; sons Rick, Rob (Leslie) & Grant (Wendy) Johnson; grandchildren Cori (Sherrie), Chris (Judy), Krystle (Brandon), Jaime-Lee (Kevin), Kristy, Richard, Brett (Jacqueline), Shane, and Kelsi-Lynn; great grandchildren Haylee, Emily, McKenzie, Moniya, and Landen; as well as many nieces and nephews. For 16 years, Barney successfully coached and mentored many Peewee, Bantam & Midget hockey championship teams. Barney had the same success coaching many baseball team age groups including leading the Little League Baseball Team to the Canadian Championships held in Toronto in 1967. Barney was an avid athlete and continued to play fast pitch softball until shortly after his 50th Birthday. Barney retired from Totem Building Supplies after 41 years of service and spent his free time golfing, bowling and playing pool. In lieu of flowers please send donations directly to the Alzheimer’s Society of Calgary (201, 222-58 Ave. S.W., Calgary, T2H 2S3). A celebration of his life will take place on Thursday April 19, 2012 at 220 Cove Road, Chestermere from 4:00pm – 7:00pm. To send condolences, please visit www.wheatlandfuneralhome.ca.
