Obituary of Oliver Albert Blezard

 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Major (ret.) Oliver “Al” Blezard. Dad passed away on March 6, 2018, in Strathmore, Alberta due to complications of Parkinson’s Disease. Dad was born December 7, 1927 and raised in Toronto, Ontario. He is predeceased by his wife, Seneth, parents, and sisters, Joan and Shirley. He was the father to Christopher (Pam) and Robbie (who resides in Florida with her daughter); and loving Grampa to MacKenzie (Robbie), Jennifer and Heather (Chris and Pam). Dad attended the University of Toronto and received his Degree in Engineering and joined the Air Force in 1949. Together he and Mom, with family in tow, were transferred to numerous bases in Canada, including a stint in California in the States where he worked on the F104. He ended his career in North Bay, Ontario at NORAD in 1982. Dad (retired Major) and Mom then retired to Orillia, Ontario where they lived until they “immigrated” to the wild, wild West in 1998 to live closer to his Son and his family in Strathmore, Alberta. Dad was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, in his own very unique and quiet way. He was a quiet man and a man of few words. He loved his music, books and was an avid movie buff; collecting many of the old classics on VHS and DVD. His collection of books was vast and varied as was his music. He had a great fondness for his desserts – especially ice cream which there was always plenty of to the delight of his granddaughters when they came to visit. He enjoyed good food and always enjoyed the German cooking of his daughter-in-law, Pam. Even eating her German plum cake (for over 30 years) before Mom informed her that he really disliked plums. He always ate the cake anyways because he didn’t want to hurt her feelings. He was a wonderful father-in-law and was more of a “Dad” to his daughter-in-law Pam; he leaves a hole that cannot be filled. Dad will be greatly missed by his entire family. He was very proud of the accomplishments of both his son Chris and daughter Robbie, and his grand-daughters. We all loved him very much and are comforted in knowing that he and Mom have been re-united. No funeral service was held, at his request. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Parkinson Association of Alberta (120, 6835 Railway St. SE, Calgary, AB, T2H 2V6).
