Obituary of Irene BOSER

BOSER, Irene “Iggy” Irene “Iggy” Boser (nee Ortman) was born in St. Walburg, Sask. on October 8, 1919. She passed away on April 19, 2017, at Peter Lougheed Center. She was predeceased by her daughter, Phyllis, her husband, Joseph, her son-in-law Alvin, daughter-in-law Karen and 9 siblings. She is survived by 8 children, Ralph (Alice), Arthur (Karen, deceased), Josie (Alvin, deceased), Shirley (Earl), Sherrie (Mike), Pat (Cindy), Greg (Patricia), Jacqui (Andy), 53 grand children, great and great-great grand children, numerous nieces and nephews. Throughout her life, Irene was mother, homemaker and breadwinner for her family. Although she had several occupations, she was most famous for her homemade food and flapper pie which she served from Wilson’s Service Restaurant on Hwy 1, Gleichen, for 15 years. Through those years she rose before 7 AM and closed the restaurant after 11 PM every day except for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day when she prepared a feast for anyone who didn’t have a family or just wanted to join in. She was a devoted Catholic, life member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Jubilee Seniors Club and was very community minded. She was also mischievous, never missed a good April fool’s joke, loved to dress up for Halloween, and looked forward fun loving family gatherings. Her final 8 years were spent at the Wheatland Lodge in Strathmore, where she definitely left her mark. She greatly appreciated special friendships with staff and other residents. She will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers donations may be made directly to the Wheatland & Area Hospice Society (Box 2154, Strathmore, AB, T1P 1K2) or the Charity of your choice.
