Obituary of William Danfer Curtis
CURTIS, William (Bill)
1923-2018
Bill was born on July 22, 1923 at Creelman SK., and passed away on January 19, 2018 at the age of 94 years at Strathmore, AB, surrounded by his family.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, William Sr. & Ada, his first wife Murna (Furgason) Curtis, his sisters Gertrude (Hugh), Irene (Harold), and Roseana (Corwin), his 2 brothers, Dennis, & Mel Curtis and brother-in-law Wayne Schrader. Bill is survived by his wife Betty (Fulkerth) Curtis, one sister Eva (Curtis) Schrader (Wayne), sister-in-law Yvette (Schrader) Curtis (Dennis), sister-in-law Elaine (Scott) Curtis, (Mel), his son Garry (Joyce) Curtis, his daughter Linda (Lawrence) Chacun, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Early in their marriage Bill and Murna farmed at Stoughton and both Garry and Linda were born at Fillmore, SK. Bill’s entrepreneurial spirit soon led him to start a trucking business assisting in the build of the Boundary Dam at Estevan. Later moving to Midale, SK. he was involved in oilfield hauling, steam cleaning, welding, excavating, manufacturing and mechanics. Bill loved heavy equipment, even going to auctions in his 80’s just to look. His welding had an artistic side, donating his skill to Dr. Mainprize Park in South SK. building Samson’s Pillars, a Moose, a Jaguar, and numerous other pieces. He loved parades and often entered his own ideas, like a giant 10 foot trike he had built. While in Midale, Bill was re-married to Betty (Fulkerth) Morasch and they eventually retired at Olds, AB. to be near her family. He was very fond of his Mother-in Law Jesse and enjoyed living close to Betty’s daughters Valerie, Carol, Darlene, and son Larry. Health eventually failed for both Bill and Betty, and he moved to the Sagewood Community in Strathmore. He loved the freedom of scootering to the various activities, doing puzzles with his friends, and visiting whenever the urge struck. He was very close to his Grandsons, Dean, Sean, and Darin Curtis. His last outing was with Dean, Grampa Bill was thrilled to see a huge rig manufactured at his workplace in Calgary.
The Family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of the Agecare Sagewood Community for their care, entertainment, and endless patience, as well as the emergency and palliative care teams at the Strathmore Hospital, they were amazing.
A Memorial tribute will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Wheatland Funeral Chapel (202 Lakeside Blvd., Strathmore) at 1:00 p.m.
