Obituary of Malcolm McDONALD
McDONALD, Malcolm
On December 12, 2017, at the age of 84 (or 48 if you’d have asked him) Malcolm McDonald passed away peacefully in Strathmore hospital palliative care just over one week after being diagnosed with cancer. Malcolm’s family, his very many dear friends, bank tellers, waitresses, grocery clerks and the like will greatly miss his smile and trouble-making sense of humour. Malcolm was born in Nottingham, England and moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in 1948 with his mother; Lucy McDonald (Smith), his father; James Arthur McDonald, and his loving sister; Margaret Milne (McDonald), who was by his side in his last days. While in Moose Jaw, Malcom met Beverly Smallwood and they married in 1957. The couple soon moved to Peterborough, Ontario where Malcolm worked for Eatons and later to Hanover, Ontario where their son was born. Wanting to be closer to family, Malcom and Bev moved to Swift Current, Saskatchewan in 1966, where he began a 35-year long career with the CO-OP which would take the family to various places in Alberta including Ponoka and Pincher Creek. Following the birth of their first grandchild, Malcolm and Bev moved to Strathmore in 1992 where they resided until his passing. Malcolm is survived by Tom and Connie; his son and daughter-in-law, and their children; Becca, Ben, Patrick, and Duncan, as well as Marg’s family; Michael, Melissa, Ethan and Tessa McKibben; her son, daughter-in-law and grand-children, Deborah Oddie and Kaitlyn; her daughter and grand-daughter, and Jeffrey McKibben; her son. Predeceased not only by his parents but also by his beautiful wife and travel companion, Beverly McDonald (Smallwood) after 50 years of marriage. Malcolm will be watching the soccer games, eating mushy vegetables and lamb, cheering on his dart mates, looking fondly on his loving family and heckling his fellow dice/Yahtzee/cribbage players in the afterlife. Please feel welcome to come to Malcolm’s Celebration of Life on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at the Strathmore Legion from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. To send condolences, please click the link below or email directly to condolences@wheatlandfuneralhome.ca.
